A simple walk down the party aisle at any department store is all it takes to realize that kids' birthday parties are big business. In addition to dropping fairly significant amounts of cash to purchase paper cups, paper plates, tablecloths, streamers, balloons, and paper hats lavishly adorned with whichever Disney character happens to be the flavour-of-the-month at the time, families who choose to go this route also have to live with the enviroguilt that comes from generating mountains of trash for no good reason.
